Spider Vein Removal

Superficial varicosities, commonly called “spider veins”, are those small yet unsightly clusters of red, blue or purple veins that most commonly appear on the thighs, calves and ankles. Bothersome to many, it is estimated that at least half of the adult female population is plagued with this common cosmetic problem, as hormones play a role. Sclerotherapy remains he most effective method of treating spider veins. In this rather simple procedure, veins are injected with a sclerosing (irritant) solution, which causes these small veins to collapse and fade from view. Sclerotherapy used in conjunction with compression leg wear may also remedy the bothersome symptoms associated with spider veins, including aching, burning, swelling and night cramps. There could also be co-existing varicose veins, which differ from spider veins in a number of ways.Varicose veins are larger – usually more than a quarter-inch in diameter, darker in color and tend to bulge. Varicose veins are also more likely to cause pain and be related to more serious vein disorders. Sometimes laser is also used to treat spider veins, depending upon size, color and location. A series of treatments is required in most cases. Consultation with one of our providers is the first step to determine the right choice of treatment for you.
